Meet Jake

Your advocate for private and public legal matters.

Jake Curtis brings a unique skill set to clients by drawing on his experience as a lawyer, strategic advisor, and public official to navigate the intersection of law and policy.  His practice focuses on government relations matters for both public and private sector clients.  Jake has years of practice with the administrative rule and legislative processes and he uses that knowledge to help craft solutions to regulatory hurdles. As outside counsel to dozens of Wisconsin counties as well as school districts, he has worked closely with administrators and public officials throughout the state, handling matters before the WERC, DWD, ETF, DNR, DFI, DATCP and DPI. His previous experience as an elected county supervisor allows him to provide practical advice on public records and open meeting matters and ethics/conflict of interest questions facing public officials.

In addition, Jake has significant public and private sector litigation experience including serving as counsel for the 2011 Justice Prosser recount, the 2012 redistricting litigation, a sensitive 2019 public records case involving the Wisconsin State Assembly, and the 2020 Green Party ballot access attempt, which included an original action with the Wisconsin Supreme Court. In 2012, he served as a Milwaukee County Public Service Special prosecutor, where he first-chaired five jury trials as a member of the Violent Crimes Unit.

Prior to joining Attolles Law, s.c. at its founding, Jake’s diverse legal experiences have included practicing almost seven years at two of Wisconsin’s largest firms, serving as the Chief Legal Counsel at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, where he led a staff of 28 professionals and managed a budget of over $2 million, as well as the policy advisor to a Wisconsin State Senator, and leading a groundbreaking litigation initiative at one of the Midwest’s foremost policy and legal research centers.

In light of these diverse experiences, Jake’s legal and policy analysis has been featured in The Hill, Washington Examiner, National Review Online, The Federalist, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Green Bay Press Gazette, La Crosse Tribune, Right Wisconsin, and Ozaukee News Graphic.  Jake is a member of the State Bar of Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Bar Association and the Federalist Society. He is an appointed member of the Legislative Committee of the Wisconsin Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc.
